Reflections and Stacked Habits
Is it really March? Somehow February flew by — rather unexpectedly.
If January was an impressive start to the year, February was a reminder that priorities, well ordered, matter.
I sailed into February with well stacked habits to start the year, fresh momentum and the energy to continue forward — the things I’d set out to do at the start of the year (like writing and reading more, taking walks outside and drinking more lemon water) gave me life, as it turns out.
But, so many things in our personal life simply happened in February — and I had to check in on my priorities, what really mattered most and give my fullest attention where it was most needed.
So I didn’t write hardly at all. I didn’t post. I didn’t enjoy as much consistency with my morning stretches or nightly reading.
But, while my perfectionist-type wants to feel bad about it, my heart knows that’s simply what was needed. My children, family, friends and community needed my attention more than usual this last month — and what a gift! What a gift that I’m surrounded by so much love and that I get the joy of doing life.
Making homemade soup, bread and Ina Garten’s sea salt dark chocolate chip cookies for a childhood friend who just had a baby? Sign me up.
Being a quick phone call away for family in London — when they need to chat? I’ll answer, every time.
Putting together a gift basket for a sweet family going through a difficult time? Consider it done.
Spending a long weekend with my entire family, celebrating my sister’s 25th birthday? Let’s eat cake every day.
Cooking, packing up meds and stopping by to help my mum when she caught the flu? Don’t you worry, I’m there.
Being there for my 3 year old when he needed emergency dental care? My brave boy, I’ll always stop everything for you.
And so when I look back on the month — scattered with some wonderful client projects, calls with prospective clients and so many new exciting things for our business taking shape — I may not have hit my revenue goals or stuck with my personal ones. But, I’m quite full, knowing the month was just as it was — and that this business affords me the flexibility to be wherever I need to be, whenever I need to be there.
I hope this is a gentle reminder for you too, wherever you are — to be okay when schedules and routines, habits and goals slip to the wayside for a bit of time. Life is happening right in front of us if we’ll only have the eyes to see it. And it’s all so very good, isn’t it?
